Charlotte wears many hats to ensure we have a regenerative and sustainable ocean, marine foundation director, philanthropic advisor, ecologist, marine biologist, Australian STEM Ambassador, shark scientist, expedition leader, and wildlife science communicator.
Marine scientist helping shape the future of ocean conservation at the intersection of philanthropy, policy, predator research and public engagement
Recently inducted into the Leading Women for the Ocean network, Charlotte is the Director of a marine foundation with expertise in governance, strategy, stakeholder engagement, and research portfolio and funding management ($20+ million). She also provides strategic advice to boards, NGOs and philanthropic organisations to advance ocean sustainability.
In a voluntary capacity, Charlotte serves on the National Executive for the Australian Marine Sciences Association.
Charlotte has led research on predator and ecosystem conservation and management across the Asia-Pacific and Indian Ocean. Known as the 'Public Relations Manager' for sharks, predators and our oceans (Shark PR), her work as a Research Fellow at a Max Planck Society Centre, and University of Western Australia (UWA) complements her extensive experience as a consultant marine ecologist.
Her work broadly focuses on the impact of development and predator removal on our oceans, as well as media portrayal of sharks and other predators. Her research reveals the secret lives of sharks, including their behaviour, movement, and diet, in a changing marine environment.
Wildlife science communicator
To find ways to coexist with sharks and other predators, Charlotte is committed to advancing marine research, supporting solutions-driven science, and promoting ocean literacy. An award-winning published author, keynote speaker, broadcast host, and Superstar of STEM, she has lived on three continents and speaks Chinese.
You might have seen, heard or read her work on the BBC, ABC, Forbes, UNESCO, TEDx, or seen her in the media as a trusted science expert. With experience presenting, teaching, and travelling across 50+ countries, Charlotte builds bridges to connect science with society, translating complex wildlife science into compelling stories for global audiences.
